Arrived back from Holland at 2130 hours. The Lads tipped the vans, we all shook hands on a successful trip and parted. Ann was there to meet me. We loaded the car up and headed for the Lib. A refreshing couple of pints of Brew Xl followed. Fatigue was setting in, Andy confirmed the arrangements for Saturdays match, and then he told me he'd had a blow out the week before. (Shame)
Up like a Lark at 6.30, a match in prospect, still feeling the after effects of Burning the candle at both ends. (I had been away for a Wick !) Into the Village Pantry for abuse from Suzie and breakfast, Andy finished mine.
At 5 Ways the anglers were milling about with anticipation. 2 or 3 new faces this week. Paul had pegged the bottom end of the lake around 3 rd island, much to the dismay of the participants. Always the poorer end of the fishery.
Aubrey Strawberry drew peg 3, Andy 2, Peg 1 was my draw for the day (a peg I drew previously). On the ‘all in' I lost my Choppin scissors so borrowed a pair off Andy. I put the feeder across to the island while I prepared my main attack with worms and casters. Cat meat went down the margins. I took 4 small fish off the island. I tried my main attack with small Dutch worms on the hook (did I mention I'd been to Holland ). Skimmer after skimmer followed. Andy was struggling. Mark Elton on peg 5 had netted 2 small carp. I was doing ok.
Time for a re-feed on all lines. A look down the margins paid dividends as I hooked a carp safely into the net. Abuse came from pegs 2 and 3. More skimmers from my main line, nothing else from the margins. On peg2 Andy was having a nightmare. He Broke the No.4 section on his pole so he went back on the feeder with no success. With just 15 minutes to go a big carp picked up his hook bait and led him a merry dance for around 10 minutes until angler and fish parted company. The feeder rod flew threw the air like Steve Backley's javelin and words of affection too delicate for my ears left Andy's mouth.
Paul started the weigh in,
Peg 1, I was pleased the scales went to 11lb 11 oz.
Peg 2 1lb 9oz
Peg 3 6lb 8oz
Peg 4 15lb
Peg 5 3lb 12oz
I went back to tackle down. Paul appeared with an envelope for 2 nd place. The master had caned the pupil, another lesson learnt. The pupil is learning but making the right decision at the right time is imperative in match fishing. (Note from the Lib, the pupil is not too chuffed about this theory he prefers the hindsight theory used when the master has a bad day.)
Results;
1 st Dean 15lb 6oz
2 nd Sam 11lb11oz
3 rd Eddie 9lb 3oz
4 th Aubrey 6lb 7oz
The spring league has 2 matches left. Next week Andy and I will both be at a wedding. A big thank you to my good friend and angling buddy for last weeks report.
The League positions now stand at
Big Sam 77 points
Andy 66 points
Dean 46 points
Mark 44 points.
Back to 5 Ways as Andy wanted to work with a float rod and develop a method with the wagler. After a pleasurable mornings fishing we retired to the Lib for medicine as the weekend weather had dehydrated us both.
Tight Lines
Big Sam.
