Match 7

5 Ways Spring League . Match 5

At 5 Ways

Strolled up to the club Friday night; a lovely spring evening. Bally and‘t ugly others were sitting in their normal corner. Bally was wearing Red again! A late bar pursued this night. Big Andy came in late after a power snooze. Went home on wobbly legs after a member of bar staff made aeroplanes out of my £5 notes. (I can't say which one as I promised Emma not to mention her.)

Saturday morning Andy picked me up at the normal time. The Village Pantry first stop for a fry up, then next door for our bait.

Arriving at 5 ways the Camping and Caravan club were in attendance and were tacking up on the right hand bank.

Today's forecast Heavy showers and Westerly wind. Paul and I pegged the match out below the caravan club at the bottom end of the right hand bank, all pegs on the 3 rd island.

On the ‘All In' out I went with the idiot stick (long Pole) started catching small Roach. Andy sat next to me on peg 4; he went across on the feeder. Don Macintyre on peg1 was soon into Carp, he was on the fancied swim. This end of the lake is probably the worst part of the fishery because nobody ever walks this far down. Don was into his 2 nd Carp, we were all playing catch up. Andy tried the floating pole tight to the island with success, catching a 3lb+ Mirror Carp. Resting his swim he then tried his main attack taking several skimmers (small Bream). I'd fed the margins with cat meat and sweet corn but to no avail. There wasn't a lot of action on our match. Similar story on the Caravan club, 7lb winning their match. Silver fish was the main catch in my net, No Carp showing at all.

1 st Don Macintyre 13lb 6oz

2 nd Andy 7lb 12oz

3 rd Big Sam 4lb 15oz

A poor Match Fish Wise. Andy leads the league with 60 points, Big Sam on 58 points.

Sunday

A different day, brilliant sunshine no wind. The lake was flat and calm.

Andy stayed at home doing his domestic chores. His partner Sylvia returns from Spain on Monday.

I went down the Left hand bank on the 1 st island. Hearts of England A.C. were having a club match on the opposite side of the lake.

Sitting in a T shirt sun beaming down it was most serene, Peace and quiet, ducks and swans gliding over the water. I started on the pole taking skimmers, then a Carp, Nice morning fishing. Stopped for breakfast 10 a.m. into Karen's Kitchen at 5 ways for full English. My mind was working overtime, Carp are moving in the reeds across on the island. Went back to my peg set up a feeder rod with a grip mesh open end cage feeder crammed with crumb and sweet corn. I clipped-up for distance and accuracy. Maggot on the hook I was in first chuck. At 3.30 I emptied my net with 12 Carp and several skimmers my net weighed just short of 40lb. This was a very relaxing day, in the sun in the most lovely condition one likes to be in. A gallon of beer Sunday night sees off a cracking weekend.

Log on next week for match 8, 5 ways Spring League….
