Match 8 26 May 2007
Hooray!! Another Bank Holiday weekend. Andy was late arriving at the Lib Friday night due to shift patterns. The man in Red was in his normal position – all the comedians were in the club tonight plus a Domino tournament. The beer was flowing.
Vic Harrison reports a lot of fish active at Kingfisher Pools, Wolvey.
Wake up early Saturday morning I'm feeling very cold due to no quilt. The misses is wrapped up like an Egyptian mummy! A visit to the Village Pantry, then next door for bait. (It was like a who's who of Nuneaton Angling in the Bait shop)
On to 5 Ways, where Andy gets the tea from Karen. Land Rover A.C has a match today, their going down the preferred left hand bank.
2 pegs left in the draw bag – Andy is on peg 7, his mate Aubrey is again on the next peg.
I've drawn peg 1, Aubrey gives me stick for drawing the end peg. Started on feeder across to the reeds, for 20 minutes. I hear Mark Elton's got 2 carp, I can't see down the match length due to a bush at the side of me. Conditions are near perfect so a look on the idiot stick and small skimmers and a pasty (small carp) go into the net in quick time.
Down on pegs 6-7 Andy and Aubrey are chatting away like Hinge and Bracket but doing very poorly.
Wasted Time!!
Looking for big fish is costly, nothing in the margins, No takes from the reed bed. All my fish came from my main attack using worm or corn.
The ‘All Out' whistle sounded. On the weigh in Andy records 3lb odd. He's disgusted with himself, as I've said before hindsight is a wonderful thing. Mark Elton weighs in 6lb 4oz – he added small roach to his earlier carp. Aubrey had a late carp up for 4lb 13oz.
I'm now beating myself up knowing what's been caught. I know that ‘if' I'd had fished my normal match I'd been in contention for the 1 st envelope. With 4lb 13oz on the scales I've tied for 2 nd place.
Results;
1 st Mark Elton 6lb 4oz
2 nd Aubrey Strawberry 4lb 13oz
Roger Smith 4lb 13oz
4 th Andy Graham 3lb
On the Land Rover Match the bank fished a lot better than our right side. Their results
1 st C Hughes 22lb
2 nd M English 21lb 6oz
3 rd T Williams 21lb 4oz.
The League results after 8 matches, R Smith 67 points, A Graham 66 points, Don Macintyre 26 points, Mark Elton 26 points.
Sunday
The wind is howling rain is forecast. I ring Andy and return to bed. My mate braves the weather and fishes the sheltered corner at 5 ways. A pleasurable mornings fishing sees him net 8 carp and 14 skimmers.
Next week Andy will be reporting on Match 9 as I will be in Holland with Bedworth Police A.C. Trying to keep a diary of events during this booze fuelled tour.
Tight Lines.
