Match 5

5 Ways Spring League . Match 5

Here we are bank holiday Weekend, Weather forecast pretty dismal.

Friday night

Andy and I met up 4 a few ales and discussion on tactics for Saturday's Open Match at 5 Ways.

Pick up at 07.30

In Andy's motors saw us stroll into the Café on Attleborough Green for a hearty BREAKFAST, Then Next Door to collect our Bait from the Tackle Shop. On Arrival at 5 Ways Lake Karen was making TEA for the Match men.

16 Anglers went into the draw on the right hand bank.

Andy Polling - Peg 13 (This Peg on the 2 nd island with reeds and rushers as a feature on the far bank)

I Big SAM Polling - Peg 8 (No feature's across but a reed bed on my left hand side) Where I put a tin of Cat Meat in went my normal feed at 11 metres and ground bait and corn at 8 meters,

The angler on Peg 9 went out on the method looking for Carp.

Not sure what the lad on Peg 7 was doing as he was feeding + fishing all over his swim.

Meanwhile looking down the lake Andy was catching steadily.

He's got a guy called Aubrey on Peg 4 giving him earache Aubrey never shuts up!

A conversation at 1' 0'clock with Andy reckoned he got 5lb in the net,

I got 4lb we were doing ok. But Kept plugging away carrying on doing what we were doing.

The open Peg 10 between the islands's had 3 carp very long pole tactics with corn.

So Andy take 2 carp and loose 2 Carp.

At the weigh in

Dean on peg 10 put 15lb 10oz = 7 carp

Andy net of silver fish plus 2carp weighed 11lb 10oz

My own net of skimmers and roach gave 6lb on the scales, (my cat meat swim not producing a thing).

1 st Dean 15lb 13ozs

2 nd Andy 11lb 13ozs

3 rd Big Sam (Me) 6lb 13ozs

League Points with a 2 nd and 3 rd places keeps

Big Sam on 48 points

Andy graham on 44 points

Friday 6 th July 07

Late into the Lib on Friday after paying for our fishing trip to East Anglia in September, We'll be based at Hemsby. Bally's Red shirt made it a colourful night spending as much time outside as in.(thanks to no smoking Law).

Saturday 7 th July 07

Andy and I had an early start Saturday morning heading to Coombe Lake for more punishment. After a long trek we settled in peg's 37 and 39. As normal with Bream fishing it was a slow start.

Andy had a few indications of fish feeding but no takes. I latched onto a big bream but lost it in the lily's. We were both fishing long range ground bait feeder tactics, alternating Hook and baits.

With 2 bream in the net it was a struggle. Andy had a 2 in 1. He'd hooked a skimmer which he was bringing through the lilies when it was attacked by a pike (Andy says it was about 2ft). Skilfully Andy played both into his landing net.

Later I had a personal best bream weighing 9lb 4oz.

I returned 6 fish, Andy returned 4 fish back to the lake, Before trekking back to Andy's motor.

Sunday 8 th July 07

Sunday saw us on a club match at the pool on Warwick Race Course. A very narrow path around this watercourse. Chopped worm and caster was our main attack. With Perch and Hybrids the target. Hybrids are cross bred Roach and Bream. A hard fighting fish. Long pole was adopted by most anglers, the margins were not producing at all.

3 big Carp were hooked by match men but, all was lost due to their size breaking hook lengths after bottoming out pole elastics.

Results;

1 st Mark Mallabone 11lb

2 nd Big Sam 8lb 10oz

3 rd Raider Harrison 7lb

4 th Andy 6lb 11oz
